Today’s Scripture: Mark 15:33-39

“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

Today’s Devotional

Today I would like to offer you a poem by one of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver. It’s about prayer. I hope you that you will read it through a couple of times. May it speak to you the way it did to me.

PRAYING

It doesn’t have to be

the blue iris, it could be

weeds in a vacant lot, or a few

small stones; just

pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try

to make them elaborate, this isn’t

a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which

another voice may speak.
